Sales of ultra high-end UHD•OLED TVs that fetch over KRW 10 million are on the rise, an indication implying that the “premium market” does separately exist despite their hefty price tags and economic downturns. According to the industry, approximately 50 units of Samsung Electronics’ priciest 85-inch UHD TV (worth KRW 40 million), the presale of which began in in mid-January, had been sold until the last weekend. Samsung Electronics initially planned to sell 77 units, but it is now considering additional supply thank to higher-than-anticipated market demands. LG Electronics’ 84 inch UHD TV,the sale of which began in the second half of last year, has sold over 300 units in the domestic market alone. It goes for a whopping KRW 25 million. Still, some point out that it is hard to find UD contents (3840×2160 pixels, four times higher than fill HD TV) for UHD TVs. However, sales of such ultra high-end TVs have far exceeded manufacturers’ initial expectations as ultra high-end TVs’ large size, unrivaled sound quality and superb designs have prodded VVIPs into opening their wallets.
