Researchers from Michigan State University (MSU) developed a stretchable circuit that includes an OLED display, produced entirely using an ink-jet printer.

Stretchable printed OLED prototype (MSU)

The researchers used special developed inks to produce both the circuits and the organic elements - and they say that the ink was also used to produce the substrate, but that seems rather unlikely.

The team is now working towards making display pixels, to turn this device into an actual display. This is a beautiful prototype and an exciting technology - but it seems at a very early stage. To actually take this into commercial production means overcoming many technology and engineering challenges such as better soluble OLED materials, encapsulation technologies to enable durable displays and more.
