LG Display plans to convert a existing LCD line to a OLED mass production line. We already report about this but now we have more informations about that. To ramp up a new 8.5G OLED production line will cost 2.5 times more than to convert a existing LCD line.
LGs OLED-Tv is based on Oxide-TFT white OLED with color filters RGBW so they have convert Amorphous silicon based to Oxide.
The bad news are Hee Yeon Kim says that LG Display need 18 months to convert to Oxide. LG Display has not make a decision to convert a line or ramp up a new line.
LG Display is production ready for their pilot line, we can produce 48.000 devices per month. Our conclusion is that we did not see cheap OLED-Television device before end 2013.
Also LG Display says that there is no problem with the lifetime. The blue OLED material which is the main problem has a lifetime of 30.000 hours.
So you can use your Tv 8 hours per day over 10 years long.
