TalkOLED reports that Samsung Mobile Display (SMD) will raise 3.4 trillion won (about $3 billion) from its parent companies (Samsung Electronics and Samsung SDI). The money will be used to boost AMOLED production capacity for next-generation displays, with the company currently dominating the market for mobile phone screens. SMD is currently a 50-50 joint venture, but this might change after this move as SMD hasn’t decided on the breakdown of the share placement between its parent companies. This investment is part of Samsung’s massive $4.8 billion OLED budget in 2011.
