LG Display, a manufacturer of thin-film transistor liquid-crystal display (TFT-LCD) technology, recently announced that it has commenced mass production at its 8th generation LCD plant in Paju, Korea.
The 8th generation LCD line will primarily manufacture 32-, 47- and 55- inch TV panels. With an initial monthly capacity of 20,000 input sheets of glass substrate, LG Display will adjust the ramp-up speed according to market circumstances, with plans to increase monthly capacity to 83,000 sheets by the end of the year.
According to LG Display, the start of mass production in the 8th generation plant will enable it to respond to growing market demand stimulated by the narrowing price gap between LCD and CRT TVs. The company also anticipates increased demand from the Chinese market as a result of the Chinese governments "Home Appliances to the Countryside" policy. (Source: Society for Information Display) |
