Samsung SDI Co Ltd recently showcased the "Window Display," an OLED panel with a transmittance of 30%. The company used four 12.1-inch Window Displays to make a "window" at FPD International 2008.
The OLED panel employs low-temperature polysilicon TFTs for the drive element. The device structure is a top emission type, and organic EL materials for RBG colors are separately applied by using a metal mask. Samsung declined to comment on the details of the technology that realized the high transmittance.
The company exhibited a prototype of a 4.82-inch OLED panel with a transmittance of 30% at SID 2008, which took place in May 2008. But this is the first time that the company has showed off the translucent OLED panel in Japan.
The resolution of the panel is 840 ×504, and its luminance is 200cd/m2. The color reproduction range is 100% of the NTSC standard. The response time is 0.01ms. |
