DisplaySearch Reveals Q107 Small/Medium Display Shipments Up 8% Y/Y but Revenues Down 13% Y/Y; Sharp and TMDisplay #1 and #2 in Revenues

AUSTIN, TEXAS, April 17, 2007--DisplaySearch, a leader in display market research and consulting, reported Q406 shipments of 572.4M small/medium displays, up 12% Q/Q and 9% Y/Y (excluding products added in 2006) and revenues of US$5.3B in its recent issue of the Quarterly Small/Medium Shipment and Forecast Report, a comprehensive examination of the small/medium display industry.  Q107 shipments are forecast to be 511.3M, down 11% Q/Q due to seasonality but up 14% Y/Y, and revenues are forecast to be $4.6B, down 13% Q/Q and 13% Y/Y.

Shipments in 2006 reached over 2.0B, up 35% from 2005, and revenues were US$21.3 billion, down 1% from 2005 as ASPs fell by 25%.  ASP reductions are forecast to remain over 20% Y/Y through Q207.

According to DisplaySearch Vice President Dale H. Maunu, 'Most of the top tier suppliers are operating near capacity, but there is continued pressure from the remaining suppliers trying to break into the top tier, driving prices downward.'

The report reveals these details about the display suppliers:

  • Samsung SDI was #1 in unit shipments and #4 in revenue.
  • Sharp was #2 in shipments and #1 in LTPS TFT LCD.
  • TMDisplay was #6 in shipments and #2 in revenue.
  • Wintek was #3 on the strength of their CSTN and MSTN shipments.
  • Sanyo Epson was #4 overall, but #1 in a-Si TFT LCD.
