LCD Monitor Shipments Up; Dell No. 1

DisplaySearch’s Quarterly Desktop Monitor Shipment and Forecast Report found that the desktop LCD monitor market rose 3.1 per cent to 29.8 million units shipped worldwide in Q2 2006. The increase was fueled predominantly by a 37 per cent and 26 per cent quarter-over-quarter (Q/Q) rise in Latin America and Greater China, respectively; as well as overall growth in the wide display market.

The market has increased 26.1 per cent year-over-year (Y/Y). 17’’ SXGA models led the pack with 52.7 per cent share, down three per cent from Q1, mainly due to the rise in 19’’ SXGA and 19’’ wide models, which experienced eight and 147 per cent growth, respectively. In all sizes, market penetration grew to 7.6 per cent from 4.5 per cent in the first quarter. In North America, growth was at a healthy eight per cent, and penetration of wide LCD monitors rose to 9.7 per cent.

Worldwide, Dell ranked number-one in terms of market share with 20.1 per cent, up from 19 per cent in Q1. Samsung remained in the number-two spot despite declining 6.3 per cent in unit shipments.  Third and fourth were HP and Acer, with 9.5 and 6.9 per cent market share, respectively. Rounding out the top five was Viewsonic, which jumped 46 per cent from the number seven position to snag 5.5 per cent market share in the category.
