DisplaySearch, an NPD Group Company and the worldwide leader in display market research and consulting, has released Q3'05 large-area TFT LCD shipment results that can be found in its Quarterly Large-Area TFT LCD Shipment Report. TFT LCD shipments increased 20% Q/Q and 79% Y/Y to 61.1 million units on the strength of LCD TV modules in Q3'05 with larger-than-20" TV panels capturing 65% of shipments and 84% of revenues. DisplaySearch expects revenues and shipment shares of larger LCD TV panels to increase over the next few quarters.

By supplier, Samsung overtook LG.Philips LCD (LPL) to capture the top position in large-area TFT LCD unit shipments in Q3'05 with growths of 23% Q/Q and 70% Y/Y to 4.09 million units per month. LPL was right behind with 4.06 million units per month and took the #2 position. AUO remained in the #3 position with 13.9% share of unit shipments in Q3'05. Market share data for the top five LCD suppliers based on area shipped are shown in Table 2. Samsung led in notebook PCs and LCD monitors, LPL led in LCD TVs, while Sharp led in Others.
