Cheil Industries is pushing forward the acquisition of NovaLED and its original technology on AMOLED material. Cheil Industries also started the mass production of AMOLED material on Tuesday.
Cheil Industries, an affiliate of Samsung Display with 95% of the world’s AMOLED market, has thrown its hat in the ring when Samsung Display decided to invest in large surface TV panels, signaling a rapid growth of AMOLED material industry and upheaval in the existing supply chain.
NovaLED currently supplies the p-type fluorescent substance to Samsung Display, and the company is known to own many important patents on Electron Transfer Layer, Hole Transport Layer, p/n type fluorescent substance, lighting technology, optical technology and organic electronic circuit technology. Samsung Venture Investment has 2.1% stake in Nova LED.
Cheil Industry’s commitment to the OLED material market is aimed at leveraging the imminent explosive growth of the market hinted by Samsung Display’s recent decision to resume the investment on large surface AMOLED panel production line. The increased production of large AMOLED TV translates into exponential increase in demand for the material. However, the participation of Cheil Industry, one of the largest affiliated companies of Samsung Group companies, in the supply chain is posing a possible threat to the existing suppliers, including LG Chem, Doosan Electronics BG and DS Hi-Metal.
