[IFA 2013] LG Electronics accelerates its effort to create the OLED TV and UHD TV market
LG Electronics is going full speed ahead with the creation of the 176OLED TV and UHD TV market.
On September 8, LG Electronics announced that it released the world’s first 55-inch flat-panel and curved OLED TV, and unveiled the world’s largest 77-inch UHD curved OLED TV at ‘IFA 2013’ while displaying its advanced OLED TV technology.
LG Electronics will release the OLED TV in Korea, the US and Europe, and all around the world, i.e. CIS, China, Asia, the Middle East and Africa by the end of the year. It will also try to expand its distribution network. In preparation for the full-scale revitalization of the market, it will focus on high-end distribution networks like local department stores as well as consumer electronics store with national networks. Besides the 55-inch curved OLED TV, LG released the wall-mounted ‘Gallery OLED TV’ in a bid to diversify the OLED TV lineup.
It will also expand the UHD TV product lineup for which the market is opening up. It will release the 65 and 55-inch premium and basic UHD TV in 50 countries around the world by the end of the year. Like the OLED TV, LG will diffuse UHD TV contents and make diverse efforts, e.g. producing contents and entering into technical ties with broadcasters.
“As the OLED TV and UHD TV market will grow in earnest next year, manufacturers are expected to fight fiercely over the hegemony in the next-generation TV market,” said Kwon Hee-won, CEO of LG Electronics. “We will launch OLED TVs in key areas of the world earlier than others to pre-empt the market, expand the UHD TV lineup and provide differentiated smart TV service, and solidify our leadership in the global TV market.”
